ROG Xbox Ally X20 is selling out so fast, even Best Buy’s Open-Box models are difficult to find right now
Table of Contents
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 officially launched on October 15 as a special-edition handheld celebrating 20 years of ASUS’ Republic of Gamers brand. Given the upgrades it brings (namely OLED and TMR thumbsticks) and its limited-edition nature, demand was expected to be high. And despite its hefty $1,299.99 price tag, finding one shortly after launch has already become difficult.
The handheld was marked as sold out at various retailers shortly after its release. That’s an impressive start considering the X20 costs significantly more than most gaming handhelds. However, it also leaves interested buyers with limited options, especially if they don’t want to turn to third-party sellers.
Keep an eye out for any Open-Box offers
One alternative in situations like this is buying an Open-Box unit. This is Best Buy’s program for items that have been purchased and returned within the short return window. The popular retailer inspects their condition before putting them back on sale at a lower price. Best Buy previously had an Open-Box ROG Xbox Ally X20 in Excellent condition listed for $1,234, offering a small saving over the $1,299.99 price of a brand-new model.

Unfortunately, even that option is now out of stock (as of the time of writing this). This means buyers hoping to save some money by picking up a returned unit will need to wait for more Open-Box models to become available.

As for what the X20 offers, it is the first ROG Ally model with an OLED display, featuring a 7.4-inch 1080p panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,400 nits of HDR peak brightness. It also comes with the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD, an 80Wh battery, and new TMR joysticks.
The low stock situation has also allowed scalpers to push prices much higher. Third-party listings on marketplaces such as eBay are already asking more than double the X20’s original $1,299.99 price, making them significantly more expensive than buying directly from a retailer.
