CES 2025 is here, and we’re seeing some big announcements from Nvidia. The company has finally announced its RTX 50-series GPUs, which will consist of four cards at launch, including the RTX 5070. However, it isn’t the announcement that has caught our attention, but a claim from Nvidia that might leave a lot of fans surprised.

RTX 5070 to offer similar performance to the RTX 4090

The RTX 5070 is built on Nvidia’s new Blackwell architecture, which introduces major improvements over the previous Ada Lovelace architecture used in the RTX 40 series. Here’s a general overview of the Blackwell architecture shared by Nvidia during today’s event:

  • 92 Billion Transistors
  • 4,000 AI TOPS
  • 380 RT TFLOPS
  • 125 Shader TFLOPS
  • G7 Memory
  • 1.8 TB/s Memory Bandwidth
  • AI-Management Processor

Thanks to the improvement and advancements in the architecture, Nvidia claims that the RTX 5070 will offer the same performance as the RTX 4090, which is the flagship model in the RTX 40-series lineup. It is known for its incredible performance but also comes with a premium price tag. These days, you can find it for anywhere between $1,800 to $2,200. However, as per Nvidia, with the RTX 5070, you’ll get the same performance as the 4090 for only $549.

This is a bit surprising considering the RTX 4090 is a top-tier card, offering 24GB of VRAM. The 5070, on the other hand, will offer 12GB VRAM. However, it is important to keep in mind that this is what Nvidia claims, and we’ll have to wait for real-life benchmarks to find out if it’s actually as good as the RTX 4090. Nvidia might have managed to get similar performance by using the new DLSS 4 upscaling technology, which offers Multi Frame Generation a feature exclusive to the RTX 50-series cards.
