Following its initial announcement a year ago, Samsung has remained tight-lipped regarding its virtual reality wearable, the XR headset. Most details on the futuristic Vision Pro alternative had only been uncovered via unconfirmed rumors and announcements from collaborators such as Google and Qualcomm. A recent leak, however, has revealed that its launch may be arriving sooner than expected.
According to The Korea Economic Daily (nicknamed Hankyung) and as spotted by TechRadar, the Samsung XR headset is allegedly gearing up for a late 2024 launch. This comes after a previous SBS Biz report revealed that Samsung decided to delay the VR wearable following the Vision Pro‘s launch. This could mean that the South Korean tech company is already fully confident of its finished product, especially since it’s being marketed as a more affordable option at only $499 compared to Apple’s whopping $3,500 price tag.
A robust yet budget-friendly VR wearable
If the Samsung XR headset does end up getting released towards the end of the year, this VR wearable won’t only be more accessible to the masses. It would also provide high-end performance that rivals Apple’s impractical offering, thanks to its partnership with Qualcomm, which supplies Samsung with its Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chipset. But although this much has been confirmed, other crucial details, like its release date, have yet to be confirmed.
With this in mind, you’ll need to take most of the information listed above with a grain of salt. That is, until Samsung itself has confirmed it. With the latter part of 2024 approaching, however, it may not be long before the South Korean tech company comes out with an announcement regarding its XR headset.
