A leaked review briefly viewable online reveals that the Steam Controller could be released as soon as next week. Hype for the new Valve hardware has been building up recently after an ‘unboxing’ video appeared in Steam app data, followed by a product page going live on official distributor Komodo Station.

Japanese publication 4Gamer was quick to take down its Steam Controller review, but not before users could capture all the data they needed. Notably, the review reveals a May 4th release date, and we also have a clear comparison versus some of the most popular controllers on the market right now – the official Xbox Series X|S pad, and the PlayStation 5 DualSense.

Steam Controller versus Xbox Series X|S and DualSense

Anyone trying to access the 4Gamer review will now be met by a ‘This content is hidden’ page, but a post on Reddit provides the goods, with a bunch of Steam Controller-related media to sink your teeth into. Everything from close-up shots to Steam menus, along with comparisons versus the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers. As you can see from the shots below, the Valve hardware is noticeably chunkier to accommodate the dual trackpad design.

As for the release date, the leak also reveals the exact release time (at least in Japan, where Komodo Station operates). According to 4Gamer, the Steam Controller “will be released in Japan on May 4th at 3 PM”. The 4Gamer review arrives not long after a video review from TechyTalk was leaked online, which suggested a $99 price tag.

It’s worth pointing out that while both of these leaks look credible, Valve has yet to confirm any release date or pricing information about the Steam Controller. The same goes for the upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame, though everything seems to point towards those being released at a later date due to ongoing memory and storage shortages.
