Valve first announced the Steam Controller a few months ago, and since then, a lot of fans have been waiting to get their hands on it. If you’re one of them, you’ll be glad to learn the wait will be over soon, as the Steam Controller officially launches today.

When will the Steam Controller launch today? 

According to Valve, the Steam Controller will launch today, on May 4, at 10 AM PST. However, due to time zone differences, the release time will be different for everyone, depending on where you live. To help you out, we’ve mentioned the release times for different regions below:

• Los Angeles – 10 AM PT (May 4)
• New York – 1 PM ET (May 4)
• London – 6 PM BST (May 4)
• Berlin – 7 PM CEST (May 4)
• Mumbai – 10:30 PM IST (May 4)

We’ve also added a countdown clock below, which will help you track the exact hours and minutes left until the Steam Controller launches. If you can not see the timer, it means the controller has been released. 

What does the Steam Controller offer?

The controller is designed to work across the entire Steam ecosystem, whether you’re playing on a PC, laptop, Steam Deck, or even upcoming devices like the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Valve has focused on making it flexible, so you can use it the way you want, thanks to full support for Steam Input customization.

One of the standout features is the magnetic thumbsticks that use TMR technology. These are built to feel more responsive and last longer compared to traditional sticks. They also support touch input, which helps with motion controls. The controller also includes four haptic motors, which means you get more detailed and accurate rumble feedback during gameplay.

Battery life is also strong, as Valve claims the Steam Controller can deliver over 35 hours of gameplay on a single charge thanks to its 8.39 Wh battery. Charging is handled through the included Steam Controller Puck, which also acts as a wireless receiver. It connects magnetically to the controller, making charging simple, while also offering a low-latency connection for smooth gameplay. If you prefer, you can still use Bluetooth or a USB connection.

That said, the Steam Controller will be available for purchase via the official Steam store. As the demand for it appears to be very high, we’re expecting it to sell out quickly. Once that happens, resellers will most likely start listing the controller on third-party platforms like eBay at absurd prices.
