The ongoing memory crisis continues to hit the tech industry hard. Over the past six months, prices of RAM, SSDs, and other key components have gone up significantly, mainly because AI data centers are absorbing a large portion of the global supply. This has made it much more expensive for PC builders to put together new systems or upgrade existing ones. It is not just desktop parts either – handheld gaming and console manufacturers are also feeling the pressure.
Valve has already been dealing with supply challenges. First, it had to delay the Steam Machine (along with the Steam Frame and Steam Controller). Not long after doing so, the Steam Deck OLED started going out of stock around the world. Valve has confirmed that all of this is the result of memory and storage shortages. And now, the OLED model is getting a price hike.
Steam Deck OLED gets price increase in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan
Steam Deck customers in parts of Asia are the first to be hit by price rises. KOMODO, the official distributor handling Steam Deck sales in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, has confirmed a price increase for the Steam Deck OLED in those regions. According to the announcement, the decision was made due to continued increases in logistics costs and exchange rate volatility since the device first launched. All models remain sold out at the time of writing.

However, with ongoing component shortages, it would not be surprising if other markets face similar adjustments in the future.
