Steam Frame launch “just around the corner” says “confident” VR dev, as Valve’s 30th anniversary nears

This isn’t an official confirmation, but the developer & publisher behind Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone say they’re “confident that a launch date for Frame is just around the corner” in a recent post. There have been plenty of clues to suggest the Steam Frame is coming soon – just this week alone, Valve added initial support to SteamOS, and the Frame’s startup movie was leaked.
The exact release date remains a mystery. However, with Valve’s 30th anniversary just over a week away, on August 24, we feel compelled to speculate that the company could be planning something big on that particular Monday. Aside from the date, the biggest question mark over the Frame is its price tag, and due to shortages, it may end up costing more than the Valve Index.
Game developers expect the Steam Frame too – maybe for Valve’s 30th?
According to a brief Q&A post on the official Gunman Contracts Discord server notes that the solo developer, ANB_Seth, and publisher 2080 Games are “confident” that the Steam Frame VR headset is launching soon. It’s important to note that Valve still hasn’t announced any specific date, only disclosing a summer release window earlier this year, but that window is shrinking.

The post on Discord highlights that Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone was recently greenlit on Steam. Now, the solo dev is waiting for the Steam Frame to be released in order to ship the game alongside it. Be sure to check out the Steam store page if you want to see more of Gunman Contracts; it also made an appearance during the latest VR Games Showcase, streamed yesterday. At the end of the reveal trailer (see below), the text “Launching alongside Steam Frame 2026” was also displayed.
Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone has shaped up to be a promising launch-day release alongside the Steam Frame as an early access title. Gunman Contracts (Chapter 1 & Chapter 2) actually began as a mod for Half-Life: Alyx, so it seems suitable to launch it alongside Valve’s latest piece of hardware. Speaking of Alyx, Valve also expects the popular title to run standalone on Frame.
