Steam reviews can carry a lot of weight, and they’re a valuable resource if you’re looking for a new game to play on the popular PC platform. Last week, Valve added a new ‘Helpfulness System‘ to user reviews to try and filter out the spam, but now there’s another feature that has been spotted – something that’s beneficial to Steam Deck users. You can now see whether the reviewer has primarily played the game on Steam Deck.
Without this neat feature, it becomes difficult to discern whether a game has been reviewed on Steam Deck or a regular PC. In fact, some users had pointed this out in the comments under the prior announcement and we recently covered users asking for a “reviewed on Steam Deck” tag. While it would be nice to see the exact specs someone used while playing, this new feature is at least a step in the right direction.
Steam user reviews get a useful Steam Deck icon
As spotted by a Steam user, Valve seems to have taken note of feedback, and made it so. They’ve added a new feature that shows if the reviewer has played the game on Steam Deck. As can be seen in the image below, a new icon and small note (on hover) appear on the side of the review, informing readers that the reviewer has “played this game primarily on Steam Deck at the time of writing”. It also reveals the amount of playtime on the handheld device.
A positive change to Steam’s reviews
“I didn’t actually think it would happen, and this fast at that! Kudos to Valve. Pretty hype even on the off-chance that the feedback was just good timing” one user said in the post. Other Redditors also had some positive comments to add to the post. This feature can help Steam Deck users better understand whether the game is suitable for the device.
Meanwhile, a few others appreciated the new detail but also wished that Valve would incorporate some other user feedback. “These little changes are very much appreciated. Hope someday we can get rid of extra launchers somehow. But I know that’s just wishful thinking,” a comment under the post read.
In any case, we’re happy to see that Valve does take user feedback seriously and implements it.
On that note, in case you missed it, there are currently two bundles for Steam Deck players who love RPG games. Fanatical’s Diamond Collection has over 21 RPG and Fantasy games, while an RPG Humble Bundle features 12 items, including Baldur’s Gate and Pathfinder.
