There are reports from Board Channels that the RTX 3060 (via VideoCardz) is asking for the last batch of orders from board partners. The popular graphics card seems to be coming to an end as the forum has received information from Nvidia board partners that there has been a request for a last batch order. This means that if they want to make any more GPUs to sell, now is the time to do so and they will be supplied in the next few months.
The RTX 3060 was released back at the beginning of 2021, right in the middle of the GPU shortage time. A dark period to look back to as everyone working from home built new PCs, and supplies were limited from production, along with scalpers and crypto miners hoovering up what was available. So Nvidia’s new hardware came at a tough time if you were trying to buy it but great for sales and the new generation offered plenty of new things.
Even then the card clearly grew in popularity, likely as it had the lowest MSRP and still had a good performance at low levels with all the features of GeForce. But now it’s coming to its end, which is no surprise as the RTX 40 series has been out for a couple of years now and moved forward with the capabilities of cards. While the RTX 50 series release date is expected to be coming at the start of 2025 Nvidia might be focusing on the next production.
RTX 3060 Popularity
We know the success of the RTX 3060 thanks to the Steam Hardware survey. Although it had its fair share of arguments from AMD users suggesting it doesn’t come up as often, it should still provide a good look at the hardware most gamers use. In July we see the percentage rise up to 5.88% of Steam survey answerers had an RTX 3060 which led it to the the top choice. That is 1.88% above the next card in line the GTX 1650.
The likely popularity comes from the cheaper and more accessible value of the card, especially when it was during the shortage and the best option that may have not been as affected by the shortage. The 60 series is clearly a popular option as even the successor in the RTX 4060 is not too far behind only four places below. Whilst any competition from even AMD or Intel is much further below, which might be in fact unrealistic.
