In a rather successful launch for Sony, Stellar Blade is jumping the charts right now. Not only rising as the top trending game on the Steam DB charts, but also breaking into the top 21 on the Steam Deck. It’s no surprise, then, that it’s one of Sony’s best-performing games on the platform, surpassing the previous single-player holder, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.

The only reason it’s not at the top spot is due to the much bigger success of the multiplayer game Helldivers 2, which peaked at over 450,000 players on its launch at the beginning of 2024. In comparison, Stellar Blade, which was just released on the 11th of June, peaked at over 180,000 players, which is expected to increase over the weekend as well.

As for Ghost of Tsushima, that peaked at 77,100 on its release in May 2024. Below is the graph from SteamDB showcasing the player counts of its games on Steam, which have been split between PlayStation Publishing LLC and PlayStation Publishing LLC (excluding China), making it impossible to put in the same ranking on the site.

Either way, you can see it’s garnered enough players to be the second popular game from the publisher and currently sits at the top with the most users on it. But we don’t expect it to fly to the top anytime soon.

Steam Deck support and favorable reviews

There are a few major factors that make the Stellar Blade port to PC from the PlayStation 5 work well, including the embracing of PC culture. Since it is Steam Deck verified and performs like a console version would, it brings a whole new handheld segment to take advantage of.

Another is the embrace of the modding ability. With over 130 mods on Nexus Mods already and well over 972,000 downloads, there are plenty of gamers taking advantage of the fact. Improving their performance, gameplay experience, or just trying something new in the game gives it plenty of replayability and enjoyment.

All of that accumulates in a rather favorable review for the game. With an overwhelmingly positive rating from over 8,200 reviews on Steam, it rises to the top of the retailer’s front page. So we might see even higher numbers for the game coming up this weekend as more people try it out.
