Stellar Blade’s studio acquires Switch 2 devkits, hinting at a possible Nintendo Switch 2 port
Table of Contents
Stellar Blade was first released exclusively on PS5, but thanks to its success, it recently made its way to PC, where it also performed very well. Now, it seems the game might be expanding even further – this time to the recently launched Nintendo Switch 2 console. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, reports suggest that Shift Up, the studio behind Stellar Blade, has started preparing for a possible Switch 2 version.
According to a report from PlayForum, Shift Up celebrated reaching three million sales for Stellar Blade by gifting all of its employees Switch 2 consoles. Interestingly, on the same day, the company also received Nintendo Switch 2 devkits. For those wondering, a devkit is special hardware that allows developers to test and optimize their games for new consoles.
Nothing is confirmed at the moment
However, in response to the report from PlayForum, a Shift Up representative stated that there is “nothing confirmed” regarding a Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade. But while the studio officially says that nothing has been decided yet and that they are only “reviewing possibilities internally,” the fact that they already have the necessary hardware and tools suggests that some form of development may already be underway.
One question that remains is whether Sony Interactive Entertainment, which published the PS5 and PC versions of Stellar Blade, would also publish the game on the Switch 2. Sony has been expanding its reach to other platforms in recent years, as seen with LEGO Horizon Adventures, which launched on both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. So while it might seem unusual at first, a collaboration between Sony and Nintendo for Stellar Blade on Switch 2 is not entirely out of the question.
Shift Up also has bigger plans beyond just Stellar Blade. The studio is already working on a sequel, Stellar Blade 2, which is scheduled for release in 2027. But before that, they might end up bringing the first game to the Nintendo Switch 2.
