New official STALKER 2 mod tools take up over 4x more space than the game itself
Table of Contents
STALKER 2 Patch 1.5 has just dropped, featuring improvements to the A-Life system, stability fixes, new weapons, and new ‘mutant loot mechanics’ as well as other changes. You can read more in the patch notes on Steam. The most eye-catching feature, however, is the inclusion of a comprehensive mod kit, but boy howdy does it have some girth.
The STALKER 2 mod kit, known as the ‘Zone Kit‘ will require a truly enormous 700GB of storage space to install on your system, and this is only Phase 1! The planned Phase 2 release will give even more options for creativity. Considering STALKER 2’s system requirements ask you to reserve an already-whopping 160GB of storage, be prepared to free up some space if you want to get into modding.

The current state of STALKER 2
Whilst the game has rightly received a huge amount of praise for its atmosphere and story, plus some of the characters, STALKER 2 is still plagued by technical issues, chiefly bugs and crashes. These problems seem to affect different people and systems to different degrees, with some players having not too bad of a time, whereas for others the game is verging on unplayable. The devs also recently noted that many existing mods can have problems with Patch 1.5, so you may be better off disabling them.
The game currently has a ‘Mixed’ review on Steam as a result. Given the development hell that GSC Game World had to go through to get it released, however, including digital attacks by Russian agents, plus an actual invasion of their country, we can certainly forgive them compared to the usual AAA publishers who try and get away with this sort of thing. Hopefully, this official mod kit will enable the hardcore fans in the community to assist in getting the main game to a better state.
