The Witcher 4 to get RTX Mega Geometry, tech that already offers higher FPS and lower VRAM in Alan Wake 2
Table of Contents
Nvidia has announced a range of new upgrades to its GeForce gaming suite at GDC 2026 – now known as the GDC Festival of Gaming. Over a year has passed since the company announced its RTX Mega Geometry technology, designed to improve high-triangle-count visuals for ray tracing and path tracing without a major hit on performance.
RTX Mega Geometry has already been available in Alan Wake 2 since the end of January 2026, delivering “higher FPS and lower VRAM” usage. The company has now demoed the technology in The Witcher 4 with a new foliage system, presenting a dense forest with “millions of [animated] objects per scene” while maintaining high framerates.
RTX Mega Geometry in Alan Wake 2 and The Witcher 4
Currently, Nvidia’s RTX Mega Geometry technology is a useful tool for boosting path tracing performance in Alan Wake. It was added in update 1.2.8 and is designed to boost framerates, delivering up to 20% FPS improvements and saving 300 MB of VRAM, which is particularly useful for lower-end GPUs trying to enjoy some sweet real-time lighting.

So far, implementation for CD Projekt RED’s upcoming The Witcher 4 – which is yet to get an official release date – covers a new foliage system. It’s labeled as a work-in-progress and is not representative of final gameplay. Nonetheless, Nvidia promises that the tech will help deliver “high framerates for complex animated geometry” such as foliage in a dense forest setting.
You may remember that the original The Witcher 4 reveal trailer was rendered using an “unannounced” RTX GPU. This turned out to be the now-flagship RTX 5090, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that the latest Witcher entry will be heavily partnered with Nvidia technologies. Nvidia has also announced extensive support for 007 First Light (with DLSS 4.5) and Control Resonant, the latter of which will also be getting RTX Mega Geometry support.
