Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is for sure a demanding title for PC gamers, as revealed in recent benchmarks. The game’s intensive nature is particularly noticeable, and this is most evident when comparing the game’s performance across different configurations, particularly in the processor department. So, finding the best GPU for Space Marine 2 might be a nice idea, but perhaps the CPU is a tad more important.
A series of benchmarks conducted on various AMD Ryzen processors showcased the game’s reliance on CPU performance. The benchmarks, which were revealed by several users on X, show that the Ryzen 3700X averaged 66 FPS with 1% lows of 52 FPS. While this is playable for many, it’s clear that the game could benefit from a more powerful CPU.
Ryzen CPU benchmarks we found online
The Ryzen 5900X, a six-core processor, offered a noticeable improvement, averaging 77 FPS with 1% lows of 60 FPS. This indicates that more cores can help alleviate the CPU bottleneck, but it’s still not enough to deliver a consistently smooth experience.
The Ryzen 7 8000X3D, a recent release with enhanced gaming performance, truly shined in these benchmarks. It achieved an average of 110 FPS with 1% lows of 85 FPS. This is a significant improvement over the other processors and demonstrates the importance of a CPU specifically designed for gaming workloads.
Our own Space Marine 2 benchmarks
In contrast, we tested the game on our high-end testing rig which features an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and RTX 4080 Super combo, pushing the game as much as we could at 4K. Just in case you’re interested.
Other factors impacting performance
While these benchmarks provide valuable insights into Space Marine 2’s CPU requirements, it’s important to note that other factors, such as GPU performance and overall system configuration, can also impact the gaming experience.
Gamers with powerful GPUs may be able to compensate for less-than-ideal CPU performance to some extent, but a strong CPU is still essential for optimal gameplay. We tested the game on high-end hardware to see how it performs in our graphics settings guide, so we had no trouble, but these online benchmarks demonstrate just how much difference your processor can make.
