Following Santa Monica Studio’s launch of God of War Ragnarok on PC, there have been some complaints regarding performance and hardware concerns peppering the game’s official channels. Some players have reported typical PC problems, such as crashing and black screens. And, since the development team at the time of writing hasn’t yet issued a fix for these issues, some people have taken it upon themselves to come up with a solution.
Take modder ChemBoy1, for example, who recently released a God of War Ragnarok anti-stutter PC mod that is claimed to improve your game’s performance if your setup struggles with its high graphical demands.
According to the creator, “this can help with performance on weaker CPUs and slower disks” and “helps reduce stuttering on all CPUs and disks.” Of course, since this isn’t an official fix, it did come with a disclaimer: “A performance improvement is not guaranteed, and can sometimes be worse (though unlikely). The main improvement this mod can provide is a reduction in stuttering, even if FPS stays the same.”
ChemBoy1 also noted that this mod “does not change the game files and will not break on updates” since it’s a “simple registry edit” that activates high CPU and disk priority for God of War Ragnarok. Again, keep in mind that this is not an absolute fix, and if you want to see the game’s performance issues fully resolved, you may have to wait until the developers provide an actual patch.
Other GoW Ragnarok PC mods
Performance fixes haven’t been the only thing the modding community has been busy cooking up following the game’s release. In fact, PinoyModder has already released a Visual Refined mod that “sharpens details, boosts color vibrancy, and deepens shadows” for an even more aesthetically pleasing romp through Midgard. The creator also “optimized [it] to avoid excessive changes,” so using it shouldn’t result in any drastic FPS drops, stuttering, or performance problems that will worsen your playthrough.
