Three reasons why RTX 50 Super GPUs are delayed, as fresh report claims they are “postponed indefinitely”

A new report suggests Nvidia has indefinitely postponed the release of its RTX 50 Super graphics cards, while the RTX 60 series is now expected in the second half of 2027. Before we get to the 60 series, it has long been expected that Nvidia will launch new Super variants of the RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5080 – just like it did with the 40 series. Memory shortages are easy to place the blame on for the missing Super cards, but the biggest reason may be the lack of competition from AMD.
CES 2026 comes to a close today, on January 9, and it feels like a few things are missing from this year’s conference. Most notably, the lack of any new GPU announcements from either Nvidia or AMD – Intel also didn’t reveal any new discrete graphics cards despite a bunch of Arc B770-related leaks leading up to the event. At least we have Panther Lake graphics to enjoy.
Why weren’t Nvidia’s RTX 50 Super GPUs announced at CES 2026?
Japanese news publication Gazlog suggests that the RTX 50 Super series has been “postponed indefinitely,” and may even be canceled. Based on information from Board Channels, a Chinese-language forum often cited as a source of insider information from Nvidia’s GPU board partners, there are three key reasons why Nvidia hasn’t announced or launched the new GPUs.

- A surge in demand for compute GPUs (for data centers) overseas means more production capacity is being reserved for them, resulting in higher profits.
- Memory-related price hikes may be a long-term issue. Not only are graphics memory chips expensive, but the cost will also impact global market share for consumer GPUs.
- Most importantly, there is currently no news of any new-gen GPUs from AMD launching in 2026. The RTX 50 series can continue to dominate the market for a long time, meaing a Super refresh is less necessary.

For something called the Consumer Electronics Show, this year’s CES may be seen as disappointing for many, as much of the focus continues to be on AI developments and partnerships, with a large part of that aimed at corporate markets. At the very least, it was refreshing to see Dell admit AI isn’t a selling point to most customers. Earlier RTX 50 Super leaks promised to deliver more VRAM for the same price as the original 50 series models, but it looks like we’ll be waiting a while for them to arrive, if at all.
