In case you missed it, the PS5 Pro was released on November 7th – the very same date as the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, today’s current best CPU. These two pieces of hardware clash in the sense that we’re comparing console versus PC gaming, something that will probably always be a hot topic.
In any case, we’ve come across someone online deciding to (sort of) mash the two together by pulling their PS5 Pro apart to get to its core hardware, then installing it in a PC case. While that might sound like a silly thing to do, it does make for an entertaining video and that’s good enough for me. Plus, water cooling and RGB lighting don’t do any harm.
PS5 Pro upgrade with water cooling
In a viral video posted on TikTok by user techmagnet, we get to see the process of this PS5 Pro upgrade. First off, it involves the slightly over-the-top step of taking a power saw to the PS5 Pro packaging and dumping everything that isn’t the console itself. Tearing down the Pro to get to its main board is the next step – then installing a Freezemod cooling solution is next, followed up by a custom cover with the PlayStation logo (and techmagnet’s name branded upon it). This board is then fitted into the PC case, much like any regular motherboard and the liquid cooling is all set up.

While this doesn’t exactly provide a step-by-step guide, it does quickly go over the process and the finished product is the main takeaway. The case is then fitted with RGB slot covers for added effect along with a projection on the case’s panel; you can take a look at the video for the full result.
Is there a PC equivalent to the PS5 Pro?
We understand that this kind of DIY upgrade probably doesn’t have everyone jumping out of their seats to find the first available power saw; maybe you just want a gaming PC that is similar to the PS5 Pro. While it’s tough to make a 1:1 comparison when it comes to console versus PC, it isn’t completely irrelevant to do so. Looking at GPUs equivalent to the PS5 Pro, we’d be tempted to say the RX 6800 is a relatively close match.
We put together our own PC build that rivals the PS5 Pro that includes the RX 7700 XT GPU and AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, both solid components on a relatively modest budget. However, if you want to buy a prebuilt machine with the same kind of plug-and-play functionality as a PlayStation, it’s possible, but it may cost more than you think.
