For a while now, the handheld gaming PC market has been expanding, and today, players can choose from a variety of options. You may be well-accustomed to the likes of the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, or even Lenovo Legion Go. To add to those, Retroid, a company well-known for making retro gaming devices, has rolled out two new gaming handhelds – the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini.

These have been getting teased for a little while now – we covered the Pocket Mini a few weeks back for example, which comes with an OLED screen for starters. Anyway, let’s learn more about this pair of Retroid devices.

Retroid launches ‘Pocket 5’ with a 3.7-inch OLED display

The first one we want to talk about is the Retroid Pocket 5, which can be considered a direct successor to the Retroid Pocket 4, which was released last year. The Pocket 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and an Adreno 650 GPU and houses a 5,000 mAh battery. Plus, it has 8 GB LPDDR4x-2133 RAM and 128GB storage, which should give you a smooth experience along with sufficient room for retro games.

On the outside, the gaming handheld sports a 5.5-inch OLED display that offers 1080p resolution along with a 60 FPS refresh rate. For controls, the device is equipped with 3D Hall effect joysticks, analog triggers, as well as button layouts that can be changed. It retails for $219.00.

There’s also the Pocket Mini for $199

In addition to the Retroid Pocket 5, the company has also launched Pocket Mini, which is a “lite” version. Much like the name suggests, this handheld is quite small. It comes with a 3.7-inch OLED display with a 1,280 x 960 resolution and weighs only 215g.

The Pocket Mini is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and Adreno 650 GPU. Further, the device packs in 6GB LPDDR4x and 128GB storage. It should be noted that the Pocket Mini runs on Android 10, unlike the Pocket 5, which runs on Android 13. Retroid does have plans to upgrade the OS to Android 13 sometime later. Further, both devices have WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. The Pocket Mini will cost you $199.00.
