Ubisoft recently announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, giving fans their first official look at a modern version of one of the most popular entries in the series. The remake – dubbed “gaming’s worst-kept secret” – is expected to bring improved visuals, updated gameplay systems, and a fresh experience for both new and returning players.

But it looks like this might just be the beginning of something bigger. According to reports, Ubisoft could already be working on another remake, and this time, the focus is reportedly on the original Assassin’s Creed, released back in 2007. If true, this would mean the franchise is going back to where it all started.

Even more Assassin’s Creed remake rumors to think about

The rumors started gaining attention shortly after the Black Flag Resynced reveal. A well-known Ubisoft leaker, @xj0nathan, suggests that the first Assassin’s Creed remake has been in development for quite some time. This lines up with earlier reports from Insider Gaming, which also suggested that another remake is in the works, likely targeting one of the earlier games in the series. And, of course, it doesn’t get any earlier than the game that kicked it all off.

While Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, the idea wouldn’t surprise us too much – especially if the Black Flag remake succeeds. Back in 2024, the company clearly stated that it plans to work on multiple remakes across the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Black Flag Resynced appears to be the first step in that strategy, with the original game up next.

Assassin’s Creed launched in 2007 and introduced the core ideas that shaped the entire series. It set up the Assassin vs Templar conflict and laid the foundation for stealth-based gameplay, parkour movement, and historical storytelling. A remake could modernize all of this with better visuals, smoother mechanics, and improved world design.

There’s no confirmed release date for this rumored remake yet. However, Ubisoft could be aiming for November 2027, which marks the 20th anniversary of the original game. It would also leave enough gap between Black Flag Resynced and the next remake, giving Ubisoft time to refine both projects.
