AMD’s new Ryzen 9000-series is set to launch today, however, new details from UK retailers could suggest another delay is imminent.
The next generation of AMD CPUs should be going live today, set for launch on the 8th of August, 2024. However, new correspondence from an account manager for a major UK retailer suggests the new entry-level CPUs could see further delays. Meaning we could be staring at another paper launch – great stuff.
One likely scenario (if the information is accurate) is that the CPUs go live today at the scheduled time, but no stock is available – and let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened.
Reviews for AMD’s first round of 9000-series CPUs went live yesterday, and despite plenty of anticipation around the potential performance gains of the chips, early reviews paint a lackluster picture. Most of the early reviews concluded the same point – they can’t outright recommend upgrading as the generational uplift isn’t enough. This is a real shame considering the early performance leaks that caused quite a stir.
Ryzen 9000-series CPUs could be delayed further
To make things worse, AMD has already had to delay the release of its 9000-series CPU lineup once before – and if new correspondence is to be true, we could be looking at a second on the horizon.
The account manager says in their email:
“I think, that the 9000 series has been delayed another week. I have asked but half of my purhcasing team are in meetings and OOO”
Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, and the US market seems to be going ahead with the scheduled launch. However, this is the second retailer we’ve tried to purchase the chips from, and both have been seemingly unsuccessful.
Overall, it’ll be interesting to see what’s up for grabs come 10:00 AM EST/14:00 BST. Early 9600X and 9700X PCs are already live on Amazon US, suggesting the US market will have chips for sale. Only time will tell.
