Xbox Disc to Digital now available, and players are already converting delisted and exclusive games

Xbox has started rolling out its new Disc to Digital feature, giving some Xbox Insider users a way to turn eligible physical game discs into digital licenses. The feature is currently being tested by users in the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings, with a wider rollout expected in the future.
The system is fairly simple. You insert a compatible Xbox One or Xbox Series X disc into your console, and Xbox can add a digital license for the game to your account without requiring you to purchase it again. For supported titles, the digital license can also bring additional benefits such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere support.
Some delisted titles can be digitized again if you own a physical disc
What’s particularly interesting is that the feature appears to work with some games that are no longer available to purchase digitally. Early testing has shown successful conversions for titles such as OnRush, Deadpool, and WWE 2K24. This could be a major benefit for people who still own physical copies of games that were removed from the Xbox Store.

There is another interesting discovery, too. Some physical games that never received a digital release can reportedly be added to a player’s digital library through the program. Testers have reportedly managed to add games such as LEGO Dimensions, L.A. Noire, and Grand Theft Auto III to their accounts after inserting the physical versions.
However, the feature is far from universal. Some delisted and physical-only games still fail to receive a digital license, meaning owning the disc does not automatically guarantee that Xbox will recognize it. Forza Horizon 3 and Dead Rising 3 are among the titles that have reportedly failed during testing, while several Sega games have also caused problems.
Xbox has said that thousands of Xbox One and Xbox Series X games are supported at launch, but not every title is included. Microsoft also plans to expand the list over time. For now, Disc to Digital is still in testing, so the compatibility list could change before the feature reaches everyone.
