It was towards the end of April when we started hearing about a ‘Starter Edition’ of Xbox Game Pass, via leaks. Now, those leaks have come to fruition, as Xbox has officially announced a partnership between itself and Discord that bundles Starter Edition membership with Discord Nitro. The new entry-level tier is not available as a standalone product on the Game Pass website.

The collaboration between Xbox and Discord works both ways. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will receive Discord Nitro benefits, starting “later this month”. These extras include 250 Discord Orbs each month, 1.2x extra Orbs when completing quests, and automatic exclusive discounts in the Discord Shop.

Xbox Game Pass now has a “Starter Edition” that comes with Discord Nitro

Earlier today, Discord shared updates to its Discord Nitro membership, introducing new features and benefits for its members. As part of that update, Discord Nitro now includes a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass where available, giving eligible members a new way to discover and play great games.

For further reference, you may read Discord’s official announcement here. The Starter Edition comes with “a library of 50+ PC and console games,” along with 10 hours of cloud gaming. These are not specified in full, though a previous leak (courtesy of the ever-reliable bilbill-kun) lists a total of 56 titles as part of the Starter Edition catalog.

Since the introduction of CEO Asha Sharma in February, Xbox has been quick to win back fans. First, announcing Project Helix, and then introducing a price cut for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers in April. Sharma previously admitted the service had become “too expensive” under previous leadership.

The new Starter Edition is yet another avenue for games to explore, this time with no added expense on top of your Discord Nitro subscription. Discord Nitro costs $9.99 per month (the same as Game Pass Essential). Discord also offers Nitro Basic for $2.99, though there is zero mention of this in Xbox’s and Discord’s official announcements, so we assume it isn’t included in the collab.
