Table of Contents
Xbox PC Game Pass subscribers are in for a treat this month, as Microsoft’s video game subscription service is bringing in three new strategy games for all you real-time tactical fans out there. Of course, one in particular, Frostpunk 2, stands out among the latest additions since its recent launch was met with praise from both critics and fans alike. But if its post-apocalyptic, city-building theme isn’t your cup of tea, there’s still plenty to look forward to with the other new games, which you can check out below.
Frostpunk 2
Navigating through a snowy, desolate, post-apocalyptic land can be daunting for any rebuilding city, but with you as Steward, your people may stand a chance. That’s just a sneak peek of what you can expect with Frostpunk 2, where you’re tasked with building large districts, meeting your citizens’ needs and demands, and helping lead them through seemingly persistent calamities.

Naturally, the game has a never-ending sandbox mode where you can create and maintain your dystopian metropolis for however long you want. But there’s also a multi-chapter story you can experience if you don’t want to sink too much time with your growing backlog in the background. It also comes with a modding tool that’ll let you create your own “maps, models, and scenarios” for an even more uniquely tailored experience.
Ara: History Untold
Instead of managing a dystopian populace like in Frostpunk 2, Ara: History Untold puts you in charge of an entire nation, expanding your lands, creating and maintaining relationships with other clans, waging wars, and eventually establishing yourself as the greatest ruler the land has ever known. Since this is a historical city-building sim, you’ll be able to progress your kingdom and its people through different periods, including 12 unique Technology Eras. And, if you want to test your leadership skills and mettle against (or with) other players, you can even play through an online multiplayer mode.
Wargroove 2
Last but certainly not least is Wargroove 2, a classically designed, tactical RPG where, instead of rebuilding or managing cities and nations, you’ll need to face an overly ambitious enemy faction to maintain peace in the land of Aurania. Although this is a follow-up to Chucklefish’s 2019 game, it’s a standalone sequel, so you won’t need to play the first to understand the events here. Like Ara: History Untold, you can play Wargroove 2 either locally or online, cooperating with other players or friends and even competing with them to see who the best really is.
That covers all of the new Xbox Game Pass strategy games you can expect. If you want more free titles to add to your backlog, check out the ones Epic Games is giving away for free in its latest promotion.
