Though ChatGPT's free version is enough for most people, if you want to use the premium features included in ChatGPT Plus, you will need to fork out for a subscription. Unless you meet one particular criterion.
AI tools are increasingly popular in several industries and organisations. One of the most popular is ChatGPT. For most casual use, the free version is fine. However, if you want to use ChatGPT Plus, it will usually cost you $20 per month. Unless you are a college student.
ChatGPT Plus is currently free for college students in the US & Canada
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that college students will be able to enjoy two free months of ChatGPT Plus. This will be available from the date of the announcement on April 3 through to the end of May.
The offer applies to both full-time and part-time students currently enrolled in a degree-granting school in either the USA or Canada. Eligible students will receive two free months of ChatGPT Plus, which provides access to GPT-4 and the Sora video generator as well as increased file limits and upload speeds.
Students will need to verify their status using SheerID to confirm enrollment status. SheedID will check trusted databases such as the Office of the Registrar at the specified college to check on student status. Students claiming this offer may also need to have the SSO credentials for their institution in order to log in and provide additional documentation.
In order to claim, students will need to head to the official ChatGPT Student portal. Once the two free months have expired, standard ChatGPT Plus charges of $20 per month will be applied until membership is cancelled. For those who are students but already have a ChatGPT Plus subscription, all you need to do is verify your student status using SheerID, and your account will be credited for the two free months.
Since it is now coming up to finals season, many students will no doubt be grateful for the additional help.
