Assassin’s Creed Shadows was launched today, meaning everyone, including PC players, can jump into it to explore the massive open world. However, the game has different issues that are preventing many from enjoying the game. For instance, there were reports about the game crashing and stuttering, with a number of players even facing FPS drop and freezing issues. Now, it seems like for some, the game doesn’t even launch, which is extremely frustrating.

If you’re currently experiencing the same issue, don’t worry, as we’ll walk you through a handful of methods that will help launch the game so you can enjoy the newest Assassin’s Creed title.

How to fix Assassin’s Creed Shadows not starting issue

If the game does not launch after you hit the Play button multiple times, follow the methods mentioned below.

Launch Steam as an administrator

In some cases, Steam can face permission issues that can prevent it from launching a game. The quickest way to fix it is by running Steam as an administrator. While this method seems simple, it has worked in the past for many games, including Civilization 7 and Black Ops 6.

  • Exist Steam.
  • Go to the desktop.
  • Find the Steam icon and right-click on it.
  • Click on ‘Run as Administrator’ and wait for Steam to launch again.

Power cycle your PC

Power cycling is different from a regular restart, as it requires you to keep your PC turned off for a longer period. However, it’s the best way to get rid of temporary bugs or glitches that may be preventing Assassin’s Creed Shadows from launching on your PC.

  • Turn off your PC.
  • Remove the power cables.
  • Wait for around five minutes.
  • Plug everything back in and turn the PC on.

Repair the game files

If Assassin’s Creed Shadows is not launching on your PC even after you’ve followed the above two methods, then there may be something wrong with the game files. Thankfully, you can fix these files via Ubisoft Connect or Steam.

Ubisoft Connect users can head over to their Library and click on the three dots below AC Shadows. From here, you can click on Manage and then select Verify files. If you use Steam, then right-click on the game and access its properties. Then, go to the Installed Files tab and click on ‘Verify integrity of game files.’
