  • Overheating
  • Missed game files

How to fix Dragon Age: The Veilguard crashing on PC

The last thing you want after waiting for hours for the game to download is not being able to play it, and that can be very frustrating. However, there are a couple of fixes you can try to resolve that issue.

Step

1

Update the GPU drivers

Before a game launches, GPU manufacturers like NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel release drive updates that include support for upcoming titles. So, the best way to ensure that the game runs smooth on your PC is to upgrade your GPU drivers. Each GPU manufacturer have their own application through which you can update the drivers. For NVIDIA, follow the steps below:

  • Press “Windows + Q” and type “NVIDIA Geforce Experience”
  • Press “Enter” and it’ll open up the application
  • Navigate to “Drivers”
  • You can “Check for update” or if there is an update available, you can choose the express or custom installation option
    Nvidia GPU drivers

If you don’t have this application for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU, head over to their respective websites and download it.

Step

2

Close background applcations

A lot of time a game or any other software could be crashing due to backgrounds tasks interfering or taking up much of the system memory. A simple way to check if this is the issue is to close some of the background applications. Here is how you can do it:

  • Right click on the Taskbar and select “Task Manager”
  • In the “Processes” tab, see which application is taking up too much resources and whether you can do without it while you’re playing the game
  • Click on the application
  • Click “End Task”

Try launching Dragon Age: The Veilguard and see if it crashes again. If it does, give the next method a shot.

Step

3

Check for overheating

If your PC keeps crashing while playing, the reason could be that it is overheating. So, check if the fans have accumulated a lot of dust, how long ago the thermal paste was changed, and utilize the NVIDIA overlay or install HWinfo to see if your CPU or GPU is overheating.

If it is, use an air blower to remove the dust and then use a clean cloth to wipe the rest of the components and fans. If you can, we also recommend changing the thermal paste of your CPU and GPU and if you’re wondering how to do that, we’ve got you covered.

After cleaning your PC, boot it up, and try running the game again, if it doesn’t crash, your PC was previously overheating.

Your PC could also be crashing due to the PSU and if the power draw exceeds its limit, the PSU will shutdown. So, check how much power your CPU and GPU are pulling and whether your PSU has enough overhead to accommodate gaming as during gaming these components take up a lot of power.

Step

4

Check game file integrity

Another reason for a game to crash during gameplay or upon launch could be missing or corrupted games files. Thankfully, this is a simple issue to fix, simply follow the steps below:

  • Open Steam and open the Dragon Age: The Veilguard page
  • Click on the “gear icon” and select “Properties”
  • Navigate to “Installed files”
  • Click on “Verify integrity of game files”
  • Steam will begin verifying the game files and if there are missing files, it will automatically start downloading them
