Step

1

Disable Triple Buffering

Triple Buffering can be used at times when you are failing to reach your monitor’s refresh rate. However, at times, it can also cause different issues in games, including stuttering. A user on Reddit mentioned they were able to fix stuttering in Dragon Age: The Veilguard by turning this setting off, so you can try doing the same to get rid of the problem.

For this, just go to the in-game settings, access the Display settings, and turn off Triple Buffering from there.

Step

2

Disable in-game overlay

In-game overlays can help you get real-time stats on the screen, such as the FPS, GPU/CPU usage, and much more. However, sometimes, these overlays can cause performance issues, including stuttering. So, if you have one enabled, you can try turning it off to see if that improves the performance.

Steam

  • Launch Steam.
  • Click on ‘Steam’ in the top left corner and select ‘Settings.’
  • Go to ‘In Game.’
  • Click on the toggle button next to ‘Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game’ to disable it.

Step

3

Update GPU drivers and close background applications

Make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of your GPU drivers to make your graphics cards compatible with the game. All three AMD, Intel, and Nvidia released new drivers before the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, so make sure to download them from their websites or using your dedicated GPU application.

On top of that, ensure that no other application is running in the background while playing the game. Running multiple applications and software simultaneously will put a lot of stress on the system, leading to poor performance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. You can quickly close multiple applications using the Task Manager.

Step

4

Use the anti-stutter mod

Another quick way to get rid of stuttering in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is by installing its anti-stutter mod. This was created by ChemBoy1 on NexusMods, who has previously created several similar mods for other games, including Space Marine 2.

You just have download the mod, run the ‘Install.reg’ file, and it will automatically make the necessary registry edit to enable high CPU and disk priority for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This will help improve performance on weaker CPUs and slower disks, eliminating stuttering in the process.

Several players confirmed that the mod fixed stuttering for them. However, if you run into any issues, simply go back to the downloaded files and run ‘Uninstall.reg’ to undo the changes.
