Path of Exile 2 is one of the biggest games of the year, hitting a high peak of 578,569 concurrent players on Steam within a few days of its release. However, while the game is currently being enjoyed by many, some players are facing issues that are ruining their gameplay experience. Previously, players were complaining about the game constantly crashing and stuttering. Now, they’re reporting high CPU temperatures.

Path of Exile 2 isn't a resource-intensive game, so it shouldn't put much strain on the CPU. If you notice higher-than-normal temperatures while playing, it could indicate a problem. However, while this seems frustrating, there are a few methods that can help reduce the CPU temp, and we’ll go through all of them.

Methods to fix high CPU temp in Path of Exile 2 on PC

In some cases, a simple restart will help fix the issue. However, if the problem is not getting resolved, feel free to proceed to the methods mentioned below.

Step

1

Turn off V-Sync

V-Sync is a setting that can help eliminate screen tearing by synchronizing the frame rate of Marvel Rivals with the refresh rate of your monitor. This helps deliver a smooth visual experience. However, in some cases, the feature can end up doing more harm than good, such as increasing the temperature of your CPU.

So, just go to the in-game graphics settings and disable V-Sync from there. If you notice that the temps have reduced afterward, keeping the feature turned off.

Step

2

Replace the thermal paste of your CPU

Thermal paste is applied on top of the CPU before installing the cooler. This paste helps improve the transfer of heat, which leads to better temps. However, after it gets dry (which happens after three to six months), you might start noticing high temps in games. So, in such a case, you need to replace the thermal paste of your CPU.

Step

3

Scan for malware

A lot of you might not know this, but malware can also cause the temperature of your CPU to rise higher than normal. Malware can also slow down the performance of your system. For this, you can use the Windows Defender or some third-party reliable Antivirus software to perform a full scan of your system. If there is malware present on your PC, these tools will detect and remove it.

Step

4

Disable third-party overlay

Third-party overlays can help you see the real-time performance of your components on the screen, such as FPS and ping. However, these overlays can often cause different performance issues, so disabling the one you’re using may help with reducing the CPU temp in Path of Exile 2. But if the temps stay the same even after you’ve tuned off the overlay, feel free to turn it back on again.
