Path of Exile 2 players have been complaining about different issues since the game’s launch. Previously, there were complaints about the game constantly crashing and stuttering. In fact, some players were also reporting high CPU temp while playing the game. And now, it seems like another frustrating issue has popped up, which is causing network spikes.

Network spikes in Path of Exile 2 can make the game unplayable. And no, it has nothing to do with the graphics settings, as those who have hardware better than what’s recommended for the game are also facing such issues. If you’re currently in the same boat, don’t worry, as we’ll go over a handful of methods that can help eliminate the problem.

How to fix network spike issues in Path of Exile 2

If the network is not getting stable on its own, then try the following methods to fix the issue.

Step

1

Make changes in the game files

According to a player on the Steam Community Forum, they were able to fix the network spikes in Path of Exile 2 by making some changes to their game files.

  • Launch Path of Exile 2.
  • Go to Options and then select Game.
  • Click on the folder icon next to ‘Item Filter.’

    Folder icon

  • Now, close the game.
  • In the folder, open the poe2_production_Config file
  • Scroll down and find [NETWORKING].
  • Below it, you’ll see networking_type=auto.
  • Replace ‘auto’ with predictive or lockstep.
  • It should look like this: networking_type=predictive
Network files

Once done, save the changes and launch Path of Exile 2 again.

Step

2

Power cycle your internet router

In some cases, a temporary bug or glitch inside your router can cause network issues, including sudden spikes in Path of Exile 2. The best way to get rid of these is by performing a power cycle:

  • Turn off your router.
  • Remove its power cable.
  • Wait for around five minutes.
  • Plug the cable back in and turn on the router.

Step

3

Use a wired connection

While WiFi can help you enjoy a cable-free internet experience, an Ethernet connection is much more stable and faster. So, you can try setting it up to see if that solves the problem for you. For this, you need to use an Ethernet cable to connect your device directly to the Internet router. Make sure the cable does not have too many cuts or bends and its connectors are working fine.
