How to fix no audio issue in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Table of Contents
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is out now on all platforms, including PC. However, just like every other new game, this one also has a bunch of issues that are ruining the gameplay experience of many. Earlier, there were reports about the game crashing and stuttering. Now, it seems like some players are also running into audio issues.
Audio issues can happen for many reasons. Maybe a feature like spatial sound is interfering, or a background setting like the Volume Mixer has the game muted without you realizing it. Sometimes it's just a simple driver update that's missing. However, even though such issues are extremely frustrating, you can fix them by following a few simple methods, which we’ll go over in this guide.
How to fix The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered no audio issue
Here’s how you can quickly bring the sound back in the game.
Disable spatial audio
Spatial audio is a feature that creates a 3D sound effect, making it feel like sounds are coming from all around you. While it can improve the audio experience in some games, it can also cause problems like missing or distorted sound, especially if the game doesn’t fully support it. If you’re not hearing anything in Oblivion Remastered, turning off spatial audio might help restore normal sound.
- Right-click the sound icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Select Sound settings.
- Scroll down and click More sound settings under the Advanced section.
- In the window that opens, go to the Playback tab.
- Select your main audio device (usually labeled “Speakers” or “Headphones”) and click Properties.
- Go to the Spatial sound tab.
- In the drop-down menu, select Off, then click Apply and OK.
Update audio drivers
Outdated or missing audio drivers can prevent your system from playing sound properly. Since Oblivion Remastered is a modern game with updated audio assets, having the latest drivers is important for smooth sound performance.
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, expand the section called Sound, video, and game controllers.
- Right-click your main audio device (e.g., “Realtek High Definition Audio” or “Intel Smart Sound”) and select Update driver.
- Click Search automatically for drivers.
- Windows will look for and install the latest version if one is available.
- Once done, restart your computer.
Make sure the game isn’t muted
Sometimes the game isn't muted globally, but it might still be muted in the Volume Mixer, which controls sound levels for individual apps. If Oblivion Remastered is muted here, you won't hear anything even if the rest of your system sound is fine.
- Right-click the sound icon in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.
- Select Open Volume Mixer.
- Look for Oblivion Remastered in the list of apps.
- Make sure its volume slider is not at zero and that the speaker icon under it isn't muted.
- If you don't see the game in the list, launch the game first, then reopen Volume Mixer to adjust it while it’s running.
