Apple’s M5 chip has been launched along with three new M5 products. These are the new iPad Pro M5, MacBook Pro M5, and Vision Pro M5. Pre-orders have already kicked off, but there’s still a little bit of time remaining before these updated models are fully released to the public. Apple fans keeping a close eye on leaks may have seen the iPad Pro M5 unboxing that appeared on YouTube a couple of weeks ago – now we know it’s not a fake.

The M5 chip announcement reveals exactly when the new iPad Pro release date arrives, along with the latest specs and pricing details. Thanks to the upgrade to M5, this is the most powerful iPad to date, with a particular focus on AI improvements thanks to a “next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core”. Here’s all you need to know.

iPad Pro M5 release date

The new iPad Pro M5 is available in 11-inch and 13-inch variants and is confirmed for release on October 22. That’s following a week-long pre-order period, which has already begun on October 15. We’re happy to see Apple upgrade both sizes of the iPad Pro, especially after seeing the MacBook Pro M5 upgrade only applied to its smaller 14-inch model.

If you’re wondering about the iPad Air, there is currently no confirmation of an M5 variant. In fact, the Air still doesn’t have an M4 model, so we may be waiting a while for an M5 version to happen – unless Apple chooses to skip ahead. The M3 version of the iPad Air was released earlier this year, on March 12.

Like its over M5 products, the new iPad Pro M5 is “the next big leap in AI” for the iPad. The upgrade to an M5 chip in the iPad Pro equals “up to 3.5x the AI performance” compared to the iPad Pro with M4, and 5.6x faster when compared to Apple’s first silicon iPad Pro, M1. Unsurprisingly, Apple calls its new models the “most advanced and versatile iPad experience yet”.

  • Up to 6.7x faster 3D rendering with ray tracing in Octane X when compared to iPad Pro with M1, and up to 1.5x faster than iPad Pro with M4.
  • Up to 6x faster video transcode performance in Final Cut Pro for iPad when compared to iPad Pro with M1, and up to 1.2x faster than iPad Pro with M4.
