If you are a fan of virtual reality games, you may be wondering if you can use the new PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) headset on your PC. This article will explore the possibility of using the PSVR 2 on a computer.

New PSVR 2 adapter

As of August 2024, PSVR 2 owners will be able to access PC games via Steam. Sony’s official PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, priced at around $59.99, unlocks the vast library of VR games on SteamVR in addition to the PSVR 2 library on PS5. Setting things up is a breeze. Simply connect your PSVR 2 to your PC with the adapter and a DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Don’t forget a Steam account and a VR-ready PC to ensure smooth gameplay. The PlayStation VR2 App and SteamVR App are also essential downloads for optimal functionality.

Some minor drawbacks

It’s important to note that while you’ll experience the PSVR 2’s high resolution and wide field of view on PC, some key features designed for PS5 won’t be available. These include HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, and the advanced features of the PSVR 2 controllers (adaptive triggers and most haptic feedback). While these features contribute to the immersive experience on PlayStation 5, you’ll still get a fantastic VR experience on PC with stunning visuals and access to popular titles like Half-Life: Alyx. Plus, the adapter opens doors to VR genres that might be stronger on PC, like multiplayer open worlds or free-to-play experiences.

Wider library of games available

The decision between PS5 and PC with the adapter depends on what you value most in VR gaming. If you prioritize the absolute best PSVR 2 experience, with all the features it offers seamlessly integrated, then sticking to PS5 is probably the way to go. However, if having access to a vast library of VR games is most important to you, the PC adapter coming in August opens the door to thousands of SteamVR titles. Just remember, VR experiences can be demanding on your computer’s hardware, so be sure to check your PC’s specs against the requirements for the VR games you want to play on SteamVR.

How to use the original PSVR headset on a PC?

If you already own the original PSVR headset and want to use it on your PC, there are a few steps you can take to make it work. First, you must download and install third-party software like Trinus PSVR or iVRy.

These programs can help your PC recognize the PSVR headset and allow you to play PC games in VR. You will need to connect the PSVR headset to your PC using a USB and HDMI cables. However, remember that using the original PSVR headset on a computer may not provide the same level of performance or compatibility as using the PSVR 2 or other PC-specific VR headsets.
