Great news for PSVR 2 owners, as starting from August 7, you’ll be able to access thousands of VR games on Steam, in addition to the PS VR 2 library already available on PS5. This has been made possible through a newly released PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, which will cost only around $59.99.
This small addition to your setup could be a game changer in terms of accessing a wider library of titles, so what are you waiting for? The question of whether you can use PSVR 2 on PC is no longer an issue, or at least it will be soon.
How to access and possible restrictions
According to Yasuo Takahashi, the Principal Product Manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment, you’ll also need a separate DisplayPort 1.4 cable, a Steam account, and a VR-ready PC (on top of the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter). Setting up is straightforward: connect the headset to your PC with the adapter and cable, download the PlayStation VR2 App and SteamVR App, and you’re good to go.
Keep in mind that while you can enjoy the high-resolution visuals, wide field of view, and some other features of PS VR2 on PC, some key features designed for PS5 won’t be available. These include HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and most haptic feedback. These missing features contribute to the overall immersive experience that PS VR2 offers on PlayStation 5.
You’ll still get a great VR experience on PC with stunning visuals, smooth gameplay, and the ability to play popular PC VR titles like Half-Life: Alyx. This compatibility opens doors to a vast library of games that wouldn’t be accessible otherwise on PlayStation. This is particularly exciting for fans of specific VR genres that may have a stronger presence on PC, such as multiplayer open worlds or free-to-play experiences.
If you crave the absolute best possible PS VR2 experience, sticking to PS5 is the way to go. However, if you’re looking to expand your VR library beyond PS titles, then this PC-compatible update coming in August will be a welcome addition. Don’t forget to check the SteamVR title requirements before purchasing to ensure your PC can handle the games smoothly – it is important to remember that VR experiences are often demanding on computer hardware.
