AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D is no longer the best processor for gaming enthusiasts, but it still holds a high mantle. And that only improves when the cost drops. So the current $349 markup, a 22% discount on the £450 list price, is worth highlighting. This puts the processor about $85 cheaper than its successor, which isn’t shabby if you’re on a tighter budget.

What to consider before you buy
The benefit of the Socket AM5 platform is that you can pretty much choose your budget: AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D has been surpassed by the 9800X3D, but it’s also a good amount cheaper than the newer CPU. If you’re upgrading from AM4 and demand a gaming focus, then the 7800X3D makes a lot of sense. But if you want better efficiency, gaming, and improved productivity, the 9800X3D is the one. Alternatively, the Ryzen 7 7700X is a flexible, cheaper option without the sheer gaming power.
