It doesn’t compromise on the visual output
With all its size, the 98QM6K also includes numerous display technologies to improve contrast, brightness, and clarity. Like other TCL QLEDs, it features QD-Mini LED backlighting, with up to 500 local dimming zones to adjust brightness in various portions of the screen. This improves contrast in dark scenes and allows bright highlights, like the flash of a camera, to be seen when they appear during an HDR scene. The Halo Control System combines high-efficiency LED chips with a lens system to control the specific distribution of light across the panel to make bright objects like subtitles on a bright sunny day appear with less blooming around them.
Its HVA panel offers a high native contrast, and better QLED boosts colors to create more vivid images. Bidirectional 23-bit backlight control and zero-delay transient response minimize light bleed around objects like flying breadcrumbs, and help show road surfaces in daytime light, so details are retained and that distracting smearing doesn’t occur.
Immersive audio with Dolby Atmos and Onkyo 2.1
This TV offers a more robust AV platform than many dual-speaker stereo TV screens. Two 10W speakers are supported by a single dedicated 20W subwoofer, supplying up to 40W of audio. Dialogue, ambience, and music play up a bit more, and the bass kicks a little harder with the deep explosion-riding soundtracks on a lot of movies. Support for Dolby Atmos offers a bit of verticality to the soundstage, adding some sense of height and vertical movement to this typically spherically upward vantage point. A dedicated home theater system still seems necessary for a truly immersive experience, but the 2.1 presentation here offers a more robust foundation than many dual-speaker setups.
