HP HyperX Omen gaming laptop with the RTX 5070 and 165Hz OLED display is worth a look for 27% less
Table of Contents
The HP HyperX Omen 16 is a top-notch gaming laptop that sports a processor based on the new Panther Lake architecture, the Core Ultra 9 386H, and the RTX 5070, which has solid value for money and performance. This is a very nice balance between value and processing power, as you should be able to tackle various workflows with ease, as well as run different apps and processes in parallel. This includes, but isn’t limited to, video editing, 3D rendering, 1440p ultra gaming, AI, and more.
While the processor and graphics card are excellent components, the OLED display takes the spotlight, as that means you’ll get to game, stream, edit, and create with the best visuals possible. The 165Hz refresh rate ensures that gaming remains super smooth, but also enables you to tackle creative tasks with its 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Other than that, it has an Unleashed Mode that allows it to tackle extreme scenarios, while the Omen Tempest cooling keeps the temperature under control.
Overall, this gaming laptop has plenty to offer: a good space for a RAM upgrade, WiFi 7, an outstanding display, and a raw amount of processing power. So, with a 27% price cut, its current price tag of $2,549 doesn’t seem unreasonable.

HP HyperX Omen 16″
Why we liked the HyperX Omen 16
Core Ultra 9 386H
This processor has a hardcore design with a new architecture, 16 cores and threads, 4.9GHz boost clock speed, 25W TDP, Intel graphics, 7.5 IPU, and an NPU that can deliver 50 peak TOPS. This spec sheet is very impressive, and the AMD equivalent of this processor is the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, which is a beast. However, we liked that it also has a strong focus on efficiency, which is crucial for any mobile components and means that while it can push weight, it isn’t very power-hungry. What that means is this CPU will drive a streamlined and efficient productivity and gaming experience, ensuring that at no point does the efficiency fall apart, even if you’re running various processes in parallel.
RTX 5070 and OLED display
The RTX 5070 is great for 1440p and 1600p gaming, as it is made for these resolutions and can handle AAA titles without breaking a sweat. On top of that, since this gaming laptop has an OLED display, you’ll have an amazing time playing games with exceptional graphics thanks to the details, depth, contrast, and sharpness produced by the OLED technology. 165Hz refresh rate is easy for the RTX 507 to achieve, and you can easily stay at the top of your game in FPS and racing titles.
Besides that, this graphics card will also streamline GPU-intensive workflows other than gaming, such as content creation and AI. While 8GB isn’t great for heavy textures, Studio will help smooth things out while various apps can be easily tackled.
Up to 64GB DDR5 RAM
This gaming laptop comes with 32GB DDR5 RAM, which is more or less the standard for modern machines as it strikes the perfect balance between gaming and productivity. You get excellent frames while having plenty of overhead to load heavy local AI models, 4K game textures, 3D models, and more without running out of space. This makes the laptop more efficient, as it doesn’t have to slow down and wait for the data to come in chunks.
Unleashed Mode
You can put this gaming laptop into a higher gear with the help of Unleashed Mode. This can be turned on in the Omen Gaming Hub, and this allows for a maximum power release of 170W split between the CPU and GPU. So, when you have to deal with heavy workflows or want a quicker turnaround time, you can leverage this mode for improved processing speed, but keep in mind that this will generate more heat as well.
