Intel’s Core i9-13900K finds its lowest price this year, better value for a 12th gen upgrade
Table of Contents
There are plenty of options for CPUs for new PC builds. But if you’re using a lower-powered 12th-gen Intel CPU right now, the Core i9 13900K is a decent upgrade choice. More powerful than the 12900K, cheaper than the similarly performing 14900K, and no need to start from scratch with a motherboard.
That scenario only plays out if the price is right, though, so it’s good news that the Core i9-13900K is down to its lowest price since 2024. Often seen well above $450 and with an average price of $461 on Amazon, according to Camelcamelcamel, it is now $399, a price that puts it $50 cheaper than the Core i9-14900K.

Why we like the Core i9-13900K
We first reviewed the Core i9-13900K in 2024, but in revisiting it in 2025, our view is that its high performance, matched with generous discounts, would still make it a processor to consider. It’s a decent option for gaming PCs, and productivity tasks were never an issue for this processor either.
- Core specs – A powerful 24 cores (8 P-cores + 16 E-cores) and 32-thread CPU, the i9-13900K can boost up to 5.8 GHz, providing plenty of speed and power.
- Unlocked – As a ‘K’ variant CPU, the 13900K can be overclocked, but this will increase its power draw and heat output.
- Intel 600/700 series – Compatible with Intel’s 600 series (may need a BIOS update) and 700 series chipset-based motherboards using the LGA 1700 socket. (We’d recommend checking for the latest BIOS updates as standard).

Who is this Intel Core i9-13900K deal for?
You’re most likely to get the best deal here if you’re looking to upgrade an Intel 12th-generation (or lower-performing 13th-gen) PC and want a powerful processor to save you from having to do a new build from scratch. The Core i9-13900K can do that for you, and it is better value at its current price.
Take note that the upgrade path beyond the 13900K is non-existent, though, as the 14900K/KS chips don’t offer much better performance. But while this upgrade may be a last throw of the Raptor Lake dice for your system, if you pair this CPU with the best GPUs for the 13900K, you can have yourself a solid gaming setup. Just get a good 13900K cooler too, to keep temps down.
