The Samsung 870 EVO 2TB remains one of the strongest SATA SSDs for users who need dependable performance, high endurance, and broad compatibility. Its TLC V-NAND, near-interface-limit speeds, hardware encryption, and mature management software make it a better choice than many budget SATA alternatives. It cannot match modern NVMe drives for peak performance, but as an upgrade for older PCs, laptops, NAS systems, or secondary storage, it is an excellent all-round option. Grab it now and save hundreds of dollars off recent price highs!
The 870 EVO uses Samsung’s in-house controller and V-NAND to deliver performance close to the limit of the SATA III interface. Sequential speeds of up to 560MB/s for reads and 530MB/s for writes provide a major improvement over mechanical hard drives, particularly when booting Windows, loading applications, transferring files, and opening large projects. The drive also uses an Intelligent TurboWrite cache to accelerate short and moderate write operations. Frequently transferred data is initially written to a faster cache area before being moved to the main NAND. This helps the SSD maintain high write speeds during everyday tasks such as installing applications, saving projects, or copying folders.
What we like about this Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SATA SSD
Near-maximum SATA III performance
The Samsung 870 EVO is engineered to make full use of the SATA III interface, with sequential read speeds of up to 560MB/s and write speeds of up to 530MB/s. These figures place it close to the practical ceiling of a 6Gbps SATA connection, making it a strong upgrade for systems that cannot accommodate a faster PCIe NVMe drive.

Reliable TLC V-NAND storage
Unlike Samsung’s capacity-focused QVO range, the 870 EVO uses higher-end TLC-based V-NAND. This provides better sustained write performance and greater endurance than QLC alternatives, making the drive more suitable for frequent file transfers, content creation, software development, and other workloads that regularly write substantial amounts of data. Because the 870 EVO uses TLC NAND, its sustained write performance is stronger than that of Samsung’s 870 QVO. Once the dynamic cache is exhausted during a very large transfer, speeds will still fall, but the decline is generally less severe than on a QLC drive. This makes the EVO better suited to users who regularly work with large video files, virtual machines, backups, and professional applications.
Excellent compatibility
The standard 2.5-inch, 7mm form factor allows the drive to fit a broad range of desktop PCs, laptops, workstations, NAS systems, and recording equipment. It uses a SATA 6Gbps interface but remains backward compatible with SATA 3Gbps and 1.5Gbps connections, although older interfaces will reduce the maximum available speed.
Strong endurance and security features
The 2TB model is designed for demanding long-term use and is backed by a manufacturer warranty. Support for AES 256-bit hardware encryption, TCG Opal 2.0, and Microsoft eDrive also makes it suitable for users who need stronger protection for sensitive personal or professional data.
Who should buy this 2TB SSD deal?
The Samsung 870 EVO 2TB is best suited to users upgrading an older laptop or desktop that lacks an M.2 NVMe slot. It is also a strong choice for creators, IT professionals, gamers, and everyday users who value dependable sustained performance, broad compatibility, and better endurance than a cheaper QLC-based SATA SSD can typically provide.
