There’s a cracking deal over at Newegg on this MSI Aegis R2 gaming PC that’s well worth a look if you’re after something for more than just gaming, but also streaming, heavy multitasking, rendering, and productivity. This model has a solid $350 discount and is coming in at $1,749.00, which is actually quite competitive given that it packs an RTX 5070, Intel Core i9-14900F, 32GB of DDR5, and a 1TB SSD.

First off, the RTX 5070 is an excellent mid-range pick for 1440p gaming, packing 12GB of newer, faster GDDR7 VRAM and a host of generational improvements, like 4th-gen ray tracing cores and 5th-gen tensor cores. While it’s best at 1440p, it can be used for 4K gaming with the help of DLSS and MFG, too. On the workstation front, 12GB gives you a good midpoint between the RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 Ti in terms of performance for tasks like 4K video editing. For many content creators, it will make a lot of sense for the price.

The CPU here is where this PC starts to stand out from the crowd and offer something different from your typical RTX 5070 builds. The i9-14900F is a beast and is designed with both top-tier gaming and multitasking performance in mind. While you may not be getting the massive L3 cache of a Ryzen X3D model, you are getting a significantly higher core count. With 24 cores and a fast 5.8GHz boost clock speed, this CPU is primed for heavy creative workloads in apps like Blender and Premiere Pro.

There’s a solid 32GB of DDR5 here, too, which puts this PC in a good position for modern AAA game releases. It’s also going to bolster its workstation capabilities and be especially welcome for many RAM-intensive creative tasks. Storage is adequate at 1TB. It’ll realistically house a handful of large AAA games alongside your other files, but you can always upgrade if you need to. Cooling is important here, as the i9-14900F can run hot. MSI has gone for an air-cooling system that’s controlled by its Frozr AI cooling software. Essentially, it can predict and adjust fan speeds for optimal and quieter performance.

Is this PC right for you?

Your budget here is being allocated mostly to the powerhouse, high-core-count CPU, which makes sense if you’re going to use this PC for gaming, but primarily for creative work. It’s a PC that unlocks Blackwell features like MFG, which help it punch above its weight, too.

If you want outright gaming performance and something more future-facing, I’d say going for something like a Ryzen 7 7800X3D would be a viable option, and potentially around the same price.

Reasons to Buy
  • Its very high core-count CPU is excellent for heavy multitasking and creative workflows
  • Strong QHD gaming performance
  • Exclusive Blackwell features, including MFG and Nvidia 9th-Gen Encoders
  • Ample RAM for modern AAA games and handling of demanding creative workflows
  • WIFI 6E connectivity, which is not as common as you’d think with prebuilds
Reasons to Avoid
  • Older LGA 1700 socket CPU isn’t quite as future-facing
  • Adequate cooling solution for the i9-14900F, but something more robust may be better
  • Relatively small 1TB SSD for hybrid usage, which may fill up quickly if you’re a video editor
