Prime Day is here, and gaming PCs are having a discount moment. After months of ratcheting component costs, there’s some slight relief for buyers. And we’ve spied an RTX 5070 gaming PC drop down to a more favorable price in Amazon’s discount event.
MSI’s Codex Z2 gaming PC is back to its lowest price since February, shedding $222 from $2,052 down to $1,830. Now well under the $2K mark, this popular gaming system features Socket AM5 and the 1440p-friendly RTX 5070. Essentially, it should be a good pick for long-term enjoyment.

Why we like this MSI Codex Z2 gaming PC
AMD Socket AM5
The AMD Ryzen 7 8700F is a less familiar AMD CPU for some. it’s sort of between the Ryzen 5 7600X and Ryzen 7 7700X, but without integrated graphics. Nonetheless, it’s a very viable gaming chip when supported with a good GPU, and it’s Socket AM5. That means you should be able to swap it for a newer Ryzen 9000-series CPU down the line if you wish.

Strong for 1440p gaming
The RTX 5070 is a fine mid-range graphics card for 1440p gaming in 2026. In our hands-on RTX 5070 review, we noted that its 12GB VRAM makes 4K less sensible. But it can still deliver in less demanding titles. Nonetheless, for 2K gaming and the strong features NVidia cards include (recording, encoding, AI support), it’s a good GPU.
Strong supporting specs
MSI has opted for a 2TB NVMe SSD and 32GB of DDR5 for the Codex 2, which should be ample for impressive gaming performance. It’s what we’d expect to see accompanying an RTX 5070 gaming PC, and Amazon’s user reviews suggest the combination works well.
What to consider before you buy
This system at sub-$2,000 offers what we’d consider good value. The main consideration should be the 12GB VRAM in the RTX 5070, and whether you’d prefer an RTX 5070 Ti or AMD RX 9070 XT. Both of those cards offer 16GB VRAM, which will be better for 4K gaming across the board – have a look at our best graphics cards for gaming for more context. Otherwise, if the price is right, we think this is a solid deal for a good gaming rig.
