What we like about the Ryzen 9 7900X

AM5 socket processor for a clear upgrade runway

If you’re looking to build a more future-proof PC, then opting for an AM5 CPU is the way to go. AMD plans to support this platform for years to come, and it also supports DDR5 RAM.

Its higher core count makes it great for more than just gaming

This CPU features 12 cores and 24 threads, which is more than your typical Ryzen processor, which tends to come in at 8 cores and 16 threads. This is a big win if you’re looking for a CPU with better workstation and multitasking capabilities. For creatives, content creators, streamers, and more, this processor is a solid pick for the price.

Synthetic benchmarks from our in-depth Ryzen 9 7900X review

Exceptional gaming performance

This CPU has a big boost clock speed of 5.6 GHz and a very large 64 MB L3 cache, which makes it an excellent choice for high-fps gaming with low frame latency. It’s a quality pick to pair with some of the best graphics cards on the market.

Things to consider

As per our review, we found that this CPU can run quite hot, so a good AIO cooling solution is needed to ensure it’s working at its best.

If you’re after top-tier gaming performance for a similar-ish price, and don’t mind getting a slightly lower core count, you may want to consider the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. This has a much larger 96MB L3 cache, improved thermals over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and is a great way to go for high refresh rate gaming with excellent 1% lows.
