Amazon’s latest Fire HD 10 tablet hasn’t had any discount applied to it since December last year. Almost nine months later, the tablet is back on the deal slate thanks to a new reduction at Amazon. It’s a welcome one, too, knocking the 10-inch tablet from $180 down to $130. The fairly sizable $50 (28%) drop enhances the tablet’s best feature: value. And that’s no bad thing if you’re looking for an easy-to-use Full HD device for entertainment, apps, and browsing.

Why we like the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet

Enjoyable display

Perhaps the highlight of the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet is its very viewable 10.1-inch Full HD 1920 x 1200 screen. For a tablet at its regular price, the screen is a huge bonus. It’s sharp enough to enjoy watching content on thanks to its 224ppi pixel density, and at the deal price it’s an even better spec.

Echo Show Mode

While the Fire HD 10 is a tablet, it can also double as a smart screen, using Amazon’s Echo Show Mode. Echo Show Mode enables the tablet to use Amazon’s Alexa assistant to display weather, news, and topic information on the screen. Meanwhile, you can speak to Alexa without physically interacting with the tablet.

Good battery life

Amazon doesn’t share the potential battery life of the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet. However, users and third-party testers suggest that you can expect around 10 hours of battery streaming video. That’s not bad, and battery life will certainly extend when less intensive tasks or mixed usage are the norm.

What to consider before you buy

There’s absolutely no denying that the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet’s strongest attribute is value. And this deal elevates that fact even higher. At $130, the discount gets you a capable low-cost tablet for entertainment, general browsing/app-use, and the secondary functionality of a smart screen. This tablet is a low-cost champion, but if you want a more capable tablet, not restricted by Amazon’s own Android-based UI and limited app support, you’ll need to spend around $200+ more for, say, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE.
