RX 9070 XT vs RTX 5070 Ti spec comparison – which one comes out on top?
Table of Contents
After a long wait, the RX 9070 XT, featuring the RDNA 4 architecture, has been released, and it is the first GPU after AMD decided to step back from producing high-end GPUs. This is the successor of the RX 7800 XT and competes directly with the RTX 5070 and the RTX 5070 Ti.
While the RTX 5070 was delayed, the RTX 5070 Ti made waves after its launch but was met with some criticism regarding its pricing as the RX 9070 XT can almost match it while some variants can outperform it, as claimed by AMD, at a cost. That being said, we're wondering how the two mid-range GPUs stack against each other, and while we haven't tested them yet, we have their specifications, which gives us something to go off of.
We'll update this article with their performance benchmarks after we've put them through our GPU testing process in the testing lab. So, check back with us for more updates.

Performance
Based on the specifications available, the competition between the RTX 5070 Ti and the RX 9070 XT seems tough. We think it'll come down to the difference in the memory type and their respective AI upscaling technologies to break a potential stalemate.
Memory type
The RX 9070 XT has stuck with GDDR6, while the RTX 5070 Ti features the new GDDR7 memory. GDDR6 has a per-pin maximum data rate of 16GB/s, while GDDR7 doubles that to 32GB/s.
Micron states that a GPU with GDDR7 and a 384-bit memory bus will result in a massive 1.5 TB/s bandwidth. However, both these GPUs have a 256-bit memory bus width, meaning the RTX 5070 Ti should have better performance as it has an 896GB/s bandwidth, while the RX 9070 XT is probably limited to 512GB/s.
This means that, on a fundamental level, the RX 9070 XT can process less data than the RTX 5070 Ti. While both GPUs feature a PCIe 5.0 connection, the memory type is the deciding variable in the match, and the odds favor the RTX 5070 Ti.
AI and gaming performance
The RTX 5070 Ti has more Ray Tracing, Tensor (AI), and processing cores than the RX 9070 XT, which should give it better performance. However, the RX 9070 XT has 1557 AI TOPS while the RTX 5070 Ti lingers behind with 1406 AI TOPS.
This means that despite just only implementing dedicated AI cores in their GPUs, AMD has managed to step off on the right foot, and whether the same can be said for its gaming performance, its AI output is seemingly better than the 5070 Ti.
On the other hand, the RTX 5070 Ti has the further refined DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Generation in its arsenal, and only time will tell whether FSR 4 will be able to match it. But what we've seen in our RTX 5080 review is that DLSS 4 with MFG is a force to be reckoned with and takes the performance of these RTX 50-series GPUs to the next level.
Pricing
The RX 9070 XT and RTX 5070 Ti are priced at $599 and $749. However, according to AMD, the RX 9070 XT is only 2% slower than the RTX 5070 i at 4K, but the RX 9070 XT OC variant, whose price isn’t confirmed, is 2% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti. In addition, AMD also claims that the RX 9070 XT provides 23% better gaming performance per dollar than its competition.
While these are all claims, and we’ll test these GPUs ourselves to verify them, if it is true, then the RTX 5070 Ti will have a very difficult time breaking through the market.
Verdict
Overall, both the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT have strong suits, and we'll have to test them in-house to be absolutely sure which one comes out on top. However, their AI upscaling technologies will be a crucial factor in determining the winner as well as the pricing and stock. If the RTX 5070 Ti's stock issues aren't resolved, we might see the market hugely favoring the RX 9070 XT, especially if it matches the performance instead of outright outperforming it.
