As 2024 soon comes to a close, it’s safe to say that AMD has been the biggest winner this year regarding CPU launches, sales, and general approval from consumers. Earlier on in the year, Intel was plagued by degrading issues with its 14th and 13th gen CPUs, and even though it introduced its new Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) processors in October, they failed to impress; we at least noted it was “a necessary fresh start” in our Ultra 9 285K review.
On the other side of the equation, we have AMD boasting the best gaming CPU on the market, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Unlike the poor sales from Arrow Lake, the 9800X3D sold out within minutes and continues to have stock issues due to high demand. We have a 9800X3D stock tracker if you want to keep up to date, but you might be waiting until the new year for progress.
AMD is winning big in CPU sales, as expected
According to new sales numbers from large German retailer Mindfactory (MF), shared by TechEpiphany on X, the 7600X3D has been the highest-selling CPU in the past few weeks. These stats cover sales between week 48 and week 50 of this year (November 25th – December 15th). It’s worth noting that the 7600X3D is exclusive to MF in Europe; likewise, it can only be found at Micro Center in the US.
Previously, 9800X3D sales were in the thousands, for a single week, but they’ve unsurprisingly slowed down since launch. However, considering the chip is still listed for pre-order with “expected delivery end of December 2024,” stock issues are undoubtedly affecting sales numbers.
CPU (top 10) | Units sold (week 48-50) |
---|---|
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D | 2,740 |
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 2,050 |
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (including tray and without fan) | 1,060 |
AMD Ryzen 5 7500F | 840 |
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X | 830 |
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | 710 |
AMD Ryzen 7 9700X | 690 |
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 680 |
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X | 550 |
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 | 490 |
AMD occupies the top 10 spots on the sales leaderboard, with the first Intel CPU to appear being the Core i5-14600KF with 110 units sold (if you add together both tray and WOF variants). Furthermore, the new Arrow Lake chips are almost nowhere to be seen; the Core Ultra 7 265K was the highest seller with 50 units in total.
AM4 motherboards are still outselling all of Intel
With more and more people turning to Ryzen processors, this is also reflected in motherboard sales. More Mindfactory sales numbers posted by TechEpiphany for the same period as above show that AM5 motherboards are the biggest sellers as consumers look to upgrade to the latest AMD platform. On top of that, AM4 is still outselling Intel’s most recent three sockets put together. In total, this means AMD accounts for 89.18% of sales to Intel’s 10.82%.
