We’ve already seen AMD CPUs occupying the top 10 spots on Amazon, with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D unsurprisingly on top following a highly successful launch on November 7th. You may be aware that the new best gaming CPU sold out within minutes of becoming available and retailers have been catching up with stock levels ever since.
As part of keeping our 9800X3D stock tracker updated, we noticed that the processor is now readily available on Amazon, and other retailers are slowly getting there. If you’re based in Germany, Mindfactory is a large store that is bulking up on stock, and recently shared CPU sales stats reveal just how well AMD is doing.
Recent CPU retail sales show the 9800X3D far ahead of the rest
Immediately after the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D launch, we saw AMD’s CPU sales performing miles better than Intel and that has continued even further as stock levels begin to recover. The new Ryzen 7 chip is leading well out on top, and just like Amazon, Mindfactory reports that every CPU in the top 10 (and even beyond that) is from AMD.
These stats come courtesy of TechEpiphany on X, covering week 46 (Nov 11 – Nov 17). They also shared a handy comparison of sales from back in 2017 with the launch of first-gen Ryzen processors, in case you’re interested; Intel was doing much better back then for DIY sales.
CPU (top 10) | Units sold |
---|---|
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 2,800 |
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D | 500 |
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (including tray and without fan sales) | 460 |
AMD Ryzen 5 7500F | 320 |
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 220 |
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | 130 |
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X | 120 |
AMD Ryzen 7 9700X | 120 |
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | 90 |
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 | 90 |
As we can see above, the X3D chips remain highly popular from Mindfactory and the 9800X3D is selling nearly four times as much as the 7600X3D (a processor which is exclusive to MF in Europe). The 7800X3D seems to have dropped off a little as its 9000 series successor takes center stage. The week prior, MF sold 980 9800X3D CPUs.
If you’re wondering about Intel’s sales, the best-selling CPU from Team Blue is the Intel Core i5-14600K with 40 units sold. The new-generation Core Ultra processors prove to be a disappointment with the equivalent Ultra 5 245K only selling 5 units. However, it’s important to note that these stats are focused on DIY sales – in other words, people buying CPUs for a custom PC build. Intel does much better in the OEM prebuilt PC space; they only account for 5.51% of sales in the stats above.
