Nintendo Switch 2 owners now have another option if they want to replace the console’s standard Joy-Cons with something more feature-packed. Abxylute has officially launched its J8 Joy-Con, a pair of third-party controllers designed specifically for the Switch 2 with more advanced and, most importantly, durable Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) thumbsticks.

For those interested, the J8 is now available through Abxylute’s official website. While it carries a $99 price tag, users can currently save $10 and score it for $89 with a launch day offer, or £67 in the UK (down from £75). Abxylute says the product will be “Shipping in Late August,” so we’re probably just a few days away.

The J8 keeps the familiar Joy-Con-style setup but adds several upgrades aimed at improving comfort and control. One of the biggest additions is a pair of TMR magnetic joysticks. These use magnetic sensing instead of traditional potentiometers, which helps reduce the risk of stick drift while also offering low-latency input and long-term durability.

Abxylute has also equipped both controllers with full-size ergonomic grips. This should make the J8 more comfortable to hold during longer gaming sessions compared to the smaller and flatter shape of standard Joy-Cons.

Another major addition is the use of mechanical controls. The ABXY buttons, D-pad, and shoulder buttons are designed to provide a more tactile response, giving the controllers a feel closer to dedicated gamepads.

The J8 also includes two programmable back buttons, allowing users to assign additional functions and access them without taking their thumbs off the joysticks. There are also two independent Turbo buttons, with one available on each controller.

Despite being a third-party accessory, the J8 supports the native Nintendo Switch 2 protocol. This means it retains access to several Switch 2 features, including the dedicated C button for GameChat, motion controls, and the ability to wake the console.

For motion-based games, the controllers feature 9-axis motion sensing. They also come with dual rumble motors with adjustable vibration levels, giving users another way to customize their gameplay experience. The J8 has a few cosmetic features as well. Each controller includes RGB lighting and magnetic faceplates that can be swapped out, allowing users to change the appearance of the controllers without replacing the entire unit.
