The newly released Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor launched last week as one of AMD’s most expensive consumer CPUs to date. It had limited review coverage (and some drama surrounding this during its release), but it’s fair to say that the new flagship chip is a relatively niche product, especially due to its $899 MSRP.

Obvious comparisons were drawn to the processor that came before it, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, especially since the former flagship launched with a $699 price tag – a notable $200 cheaper than the new Dual Edition model. And right now, the 9950X3D looks even more inviting thanks to an ongoing discount that drops it as low as $573.99.

Price cut for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D on Amazon

9950X3D2 Dual Edition actually had an even more inflated price on Amazon before getting its first ‘discount’ late last week. Now, it is widely available for its $899 MSRP. That’s a price that’s hard to stomach if you’re looking for the best price to performance out there, which we may have to give to the regular 9950X3D as long as this Amazon deal is live.

Of course, the Dual Edition model still has a place on the market for enthusiasts tackling high-end workflows. The key difference between these two is the amount of Cache. Thanks to its world’s first (on a consumer desktop CPU) dual 3D V-Cache design, the X3D2 model packs 192MB of L3 cache – a notable uplift over the 128MB in the 9950X3D.

Both chips still offer a 16-core, 32-thread spec with a base clock speed of 4.3GHz and 2nd-generation 3D V-Cache. The 9950X3D actually has a 100MHz higher boost clock speed than its successor, though this can be considered negligible. Both are overclockable and use the latest AM5 socket, while the 9950X3D2 hits a 200W default TDP – drawing 30 more watts.
