More unofficial information about the upcoming AMD Ryzen AI Max 300 (Strix Halo) APU has surfaced following previous leaks that claimed the upcoming chips would use powerful RDNA 3.5 iGPUs. Of course, despite being baseless, these rumors shouldn’t come as a surprise since the Strix Halo (along with the Fire Range) processors are allegedly “expected to arrive sometime in 2025.” And since the leaker providing these latest tidbits is fairly well-known, it lends even more credence to these as-yet unconfirmed details.

According to a Weibo post from leaker Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, AMD is reportedly planning to release its Strix Halo processors in three SKUs:

  • Ryzen AI Max 395(16C/40CU)
  • Ryzen AI Max 390(12C/40CU)
  • Ryzen AI Max 385(8C/32CU)

AMD Strix Halo APUs can allegedly allocate up to 96GB of VRAM

They also claimed that Strix Halo processors can allocate “up to 96GB of memory” as VRAM, so laptops equipped with these APUs could potentially match and even exceed the graphical capabilities of low to mid-tier rigs. But of course, a laptop, no matter how robust, can’t really replace the processing and computing power of a complete desktop setup, especially if you plan on constantly using it for intensive tasks like video editing, animating, 4K gaming, etc.

As always, though, you’ll need to take all these details with a grain of salt since AMD hasn’t confirmed any of it at the time of writing. But with the Strix Halo’s release date coming soon, you may not have to wait long for an official announcement on these high-powered pieces of hardware. In the meantime, why not check out this leak that claims the AMD Strix APU will power the next-gen ASUS ROG Flow Z13?
