It’s not long until AMD’s new ‘Strix Point’ mobile CPUs are due to hit stores, but a bombshell has dropped in the form of a rumored delay. While we’ll have to take this with a pinch of salt, there have indeed been talks that the launch has been delayed by a couple of weeks.

This news comes a few days after ASUS listed new AMD Ryzen AI 300 laptops with availability starting on July 15 – for the uninformed, these are the codenamed ‘Strix Point’ models. On the bright side though, AMD has no immediate competition to worry about, giving them some time to work with.

Strix Point has been delayed to July 28, according to rumor

This rumor originates from a prominent leaker on Weibo, simply starting the dates without much other context. This has been interpreted as relating to the Strix Point launch based on the previously announced July 15th launch date. This date could now be delayed until July 28th, just under two weeks later.

Again, this is no confirmation from AMD or its partners, but it’s something worth thinking about if you’re looking forward to getting one of these Ryzen AI-accelerated Copilot+ laptops at launch.

Still coming before Lunar Lake & promising benchmarks

While a delay would be a little bit annoying, it does put them closer to the launch of the Ryzen 9000 series – and still within AMD’s July launch promise. The good news for Team Red is that its main competition, Intel’s Lunar Lake, isn’t expected until later this year, likely shipping in September according to current rumors. This gives AMD time to perfect Strix Point, rather than rush it out in a race to the finish line.

We’ve seen some impressive leaked benchmarks coming from the Ryzen AI 300 series at the heart of these upcoming laptops. For example, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 could prove to be a powerhouse for productivity, which is no doubt what these mobile chips are all about, for the most part.
