Apple iPhone 17 Air price rumor already has its doubters as cheapest model expected to cost over $1,000
Table of Contents
The first rumors (that seem fairly confident) about iPhone 17 pricing have emerged online, including the new expected iPhone 17 Air. Based on the report, the Air model will be available in three storage options, from 256GB up to 1TB. Previously, speculation pointed towards the Air only coming in 256GB and 512GB variants.
Rumor has it, the cheapest iPhone 17 Air will be available for $1,099, some $300 more expensive than standard iPhone 17 model – according to the same report. The Air comes along as a replacement to the Plus, which proved to be generally less popular than the series’ other models. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 16 Plus had a starting price of $899 at launch.
| Model | Storage | Price (rumored) |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Air | 256GB | $1,099 |
| iPhone 17 Air | 512GB | $1,299 |
| iPhone 17 Air | 1TB | $1,499 |

Not everyone is convinced
If this forecasted price proves to be true, then it’s hard to call the iPhone 17 Air a direct replacement for the Plus based on the price alone. It is said to feature a 6.6″ screen (the 16 Plus is 6.7″) and the same display technology and processor as the standard iPhone 17.
However, its real selling point is the form factor, which is one aspect which may be driving up the cost. The Air is expected to be Apple’s thinnest smartphone to date. We’ve heard rumors of Apple priortizing thinner and lighter devices for a while, and the iPad Pro that launched last year (Apple’s thinnest-ever product) is proof of that philosophy.
As always with these kinds of early leaks and rumors, be sure to take them with a pinch of salt. Apple is pretty good at keeping these details under wraps until officially announcing them, and Apple fans are already doubtful of the alleged price (as seen in the post above). Expected price rises for the Pro model may also affect the cheaper models; your best bet is to simply wait for the next Apple event for the full reveal – this takes place on September 9, 10 AM Pacific Time.
